CHARENTAISE KIDUR x RONDINAUD
Choosing Kidur means preserving French know-how and craftsmanship.

The Kidur Manufacture presents the KIDUR x RONDINAUD Charentaise. Handmade in Charente by RONDINAUD , the manufacturer of authentic charentaises since 1907. Manufactured using the ancestral method of stitching and turning, it is revisited in the emblematic Kidur material: the moleskine Safre.

A COLLABORATION OF MANUFACTURERS
All Rondinaud Charentaises are made in La Rochefoucauld in Charente, the historic birthplace of the legendary slipper, using the stitched-turned technique.
The great peculiarity of charentaises is that they are sewn inside out using machines dating back to the 1930s, and turned inside out at the end using a tool called a "chevre". They are entirely made by stitching without the addition of glue.
THE REAL CHARENTAISE
In 2019, the "Charentaise de Charente-Périgord" obtained the protection of a "geographical indication," a label issued by the INPI. The indication covers the manufacture of this traditional slipper, using the original "sewn-turned" technique, in a geographical area limited to the Charente-Périgord region.
The authentic felt sole of the sewn-backed charentaise slippers once allowed servants to move from room to room in castles, silently while polishing the parquet floors. It is thanks to this sole, allowing them to move discreetly, that the charentaise slippers earned their name 'Silent'.
The felt soles are made in the South West of France, at the last wool manufacturer.
The genuine, authentic felt sole can be woven in 3 or 5 warps, which will determine the sole's thickness. Generally, this genuine felt can be recognized by the weaving threads at the front (or back) of the slipper.
To recognize a "real" charentaise, it must firstly be mounted on a felt sole, and secondly, when you pull between the top of the slipper and the sole, you can see the cotton sewing thread which joins the two elements together.
The principle of the sewn-turned gives the product an unrivaled comfort which will have no equivalent with another manufacturing technique such as welding (glued sole).
