Last weekend, the Kidur team stepped out of its workshop to enjoy the We Love Green festival in the heart of the Bois de Vincennes.
After two blank years, the 2022 edition of the festival will have made the eyes of over 100,000 festival-goers shine and their hearts dance to pop, rock, rap and electro sounds from the four corners of the globe. Despite the bad weather that cut Saturday short, the weekend was more than memorable, filled with great discoveries, musical lightning and lots of mud.
Although many big names such as Gorillaz, Jorja Smith and Phoenix have made their way into the festival line-up, we wanted to share a few of our favorites from this year's We love Pluie.
C. TANGANA, a visual and auditory slap in the face
A real auditory and visual slap in the face, that's what we got from C.Tangana's incredible performance.
Initially known as a rapper and producer, C. Tangana enjoys an impressive reputation in Spain and Latin America. Still little known in France, his latest album "El Madrileño" is likely to shake things up. The album is a tribute to Spain's musical history, influenced by flamenco, reggaeton, bachata, bossa nova and a distinctly autotuned rap sound. El Madrileño surrounds himself with flamenco references such as Niño De Elche, La Húngara and the Gipsy Kings, while breaking traditional codes with new sounds that are as experimental (vocoder and synthesizer) as they are transgenerational.
C. Tangana brought this 2022 edition to a brilliant close. This was the first time the artist had performed in France, and he saw things in a big, big way. More than a concert, it was a real play, more like a video clip than a concert. Some fifty actors on stage, actually musicians who had worked on the record, reproduced a fascinating after-dinner scene, setting aside notions of "good" and "bad" art by connecting the more traditional Spanish musicians to the new generations. A suspended moment, joyful, moving, grandiose and full of life that we won't soon forget.
WET LEG, a moment out of time
Wet Leg is the pop-rock phenomenon of the moment. Two young women, friends since university, from a small island off the coast of England, decided to form a rock band in 2019. Two years later, with just a handful of notes and a chord, the duo disrupted the music industry with an intriguing, sunny single called Chaise Longue, which quickly went viral. No one had seen them coming, and it's been a long time since a band from the indie rock movement caused such a stir.
For their self-titled debut album, released in April, the duo worked with Dan Carey (Fontaines D.C.). Dan draws on melodic and stylistic post-punk influences straight out of the 70s. Combined with a light, melancholy, heady pop sound, the album is effective and set to become one of this summer's must-have albums.
WetLeg performed early evening on Sunday June 5 at La Prairie, the festival's biggest stage. A satiny, decadent and above all nonchalant performance that we can't help but love and recommend!
BICEP, a hypnotic show
Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar formed the Bicep duo in London in 2008, mixing unpretentious disco, house and techno tracks through the "feel my bicep" blog. The result is precise, avant-garde music that gets hearts and bodies dancing with dazzling live performances.
The band's must-have track, "Glue", transports us out of time, to soaring, haunting sounds that are impossible to get enough of. Their latest album "Isles", released on the Ninja Tune label, is a sumptuous nugget, juggling with our emotions.
The members of Bicep took to the "Canopée" stage on Sunday evening with a masterful and sincere set design, giving way to a truly hypnotic show, full of humility.
