GABRIEL is the JEAN by KIDUR.
Stemming from the study of denim produced by KIDUR in the 80s, we drew inspiration from our archive pieces to design a garment that lasts.
Designed by KIDUR in La Plainelière de Courlay, the Jean GABRIEL was made by a small group of seamstresses around Elise, our prototype maker. Like the rest of the collection, GABRIEL is made in France and is certified Origine France Garantie (OFG).
The cut of the JEAN GABRIEL is subtly set above the waist, the leg is straight but not excessively so, the fit is comfortable yet form-fitting.
GABRIEL is a JEAN whose design evokes the best cuts of our favorite pants.
To make our GABRIEL jeans, we've selected a raw material that meets our exacting standards.
Nestled in the natural park of the Ticino Valley in northern Italy, the CANDIANI factory, founded in 1938, spins and weaves raw materials with the highest environmental standards.
CANDIANI 's manufacturing processes use biodegradable plant components to fix the indigo. CANDIANI fabrics use up to 75% less water and 65% less dye than conventional DENIM.
The historic "WARP 72" signature of CANDIANI yarns and the typical 3×1 weave give the fabric of our JEAN GABRIEL a supple, soft and authentic texture.
Dyeing with INDIGO VEGETAL gives a rich, nuanced look.
Woven in small widths on authentic shuttle looms, the DENIM of KIDUR's JEAN GABRIEL is finished with a SELVEDGE selvedge. The fabric is dense, giving a feeling of thickness and solidity. The 13 oz. weight makes these jeans suitable for any time of year, neither too heavy nor too light.
The cut of the JEAN GABRIEL by KIDUR has been designed with the necessary ease to ensure comfort and durability. GABRIEL sits squarely on the hips, with a rather high waist. The leg is straight and slightly tapered at the calf and ankle. GABRIEL is a contemporary jean with subtle references to the iconic jeans of the 90s.

For the manufacture of our first JEAN, we entrusted the task to a small team of seamstresses from the Kidur factory, led by Elise, our prototype maker. Equipped with the appropriate machinery and know-how, this small group took care to assemble the GABRIEL's parts with traditional, resistant tailoring. The seams were reinforced with various tack stitches, and the pull points were secured with brass rivets.
GABRIEL is entirely hand-assembled, with no automatic machines.
At the origin of JEAN GABRIEL, is LE NEMAUSUS.
The NEMAUSUS pants are made of DENIM pants launched by KIDUR in 2019. To make them we copied a cut from a KIDUR from the 70s. Pants in DENIM trousers with a loose fit and typical double-needle construction. The material used on the NEMAUSUS was a very heavy, dense twill produced by Manufacture Métis, a machine-weaving workshop in the Vosges.
The NEMAUSUS is certainly the most extreme garment designed by KIDUR and the closest thing to the JEAN of the early 20th century. The most discerning of you rushed to buy them, but many of you also pointed out that a pair of JEAN would be a welcome addition to our collection.
If we haven't written off this vision of the JEAN that was the NEMAUSUSwas, we've been working ever since on the conception of a JEAN more accessible. Thus was born GABRIEL the JEAN made in France by KIDUR.
To make your clothes last longer, it's essential to take good care of them, so here are a few tips for your GABRIEL.
The material of your jeans is raw, i.e. it has not been washed or treated after weaving and making. The indigo that gives them their typical color may leave blue traces during the first few weeks of use. The raw fabric that makes up your pants is rough, i.e. it still contains the treatment that enables it to be woven tightly and densely, giving it a "cardboardy" hand. These characteristics fade over time and disappear with the first wash.
FIRST WASH
The first wash is an important step in the life of your jeans, and we advise you to follow a few instructions. This first wash will remove excess indigo by disgorging and remove the primer from your jeans, softening and brightening the fabric. This stage will also give your jeans their final fit and dimensions. As soon as you buy them, or after they've been in use for a while, wash them inside out on a short cycle at 30°C maximum. Adding a glass of vinegar to the drum will fix the indigo. Ideally, the drum should be filled with more than just jeans, as the presence of other garments that don't mind indigo blue will prevent your pants from becoming corked and mottled. Spin at 800 rpm maximum and air-dry without creasing (on a hanger or flat).
EVERYDAY
Mechanical washing accelerates wear and tear. Spaced cycles at 30°C with a little detergent, reduced spinning at 800 rpm and air-drying are preferable for greater longevity.
