Manufacture Kidur presents the KIDUR x RONDINAUD Charentaise. Handcrafted in the Charente region by RONDINAUD, makers of genuine Charentaises since 1907. Manufactured using the ancestral "cousu-retourné" method, it is revisited in the emblematic Kidur fabric: moleskine Safre.

Discover the KIDUR x RONDINAUD charentaise, the result of a collaboration between two historic New Aquitaine manufacturers. Entirely made in France.

A COLLABORATION OF MANUFACTURERS

All Rondinaud Charentaises are made at La Rochefoucauld in Charente, the historic birthplace of the legendary slipper, using the sew-and-turn technique.

The special feature of charentaises is that they are sewn inside out using machines dating back to the 1930s, and turned inside out at the end using a tool called a "chèvre". They are entirely stitched, with no glue added.

THE REAL CHARENTAISE

In 2019, the "Charente-Périgord Charentaise" obtained protection as a "geographical indication", a label issued by Inpi. The indication covers the manufacture of this traditional turnover, using the original "cousu-retourné" technique, in a geographical area limited to the Charente-Périgord zone.

The authentic felt sole of the charentaise in cousu-retourné once enabled valets to move from room to room in châteaux, making no noise while polishing the parquet floors. It's thanks to this sole that the charentaise earned its name of 'Silencieuses'.

The felt soles are made in south-west France, by the last remaining wool manufacturer.

Genuine felt soles can be woven in 3 or 5 warps, which determines the thickness of the sole. Genuine felt is generally recognized by the weaving threads at the front (or back) of the slipper.

To recognize a "real" charentaise, it must be mounted on a felt sole, and when you pull between the top of the slipper and the sole, you can see the cotton stitching thread that joins the 2 elements.

The sew-and-turn principle gives the product an unrivalled comfort, unmatched by any other manufacturing technique such as welded (glued sole).
