Kidur refocuses on essentials: manufacturing

Courlay, May 27, 2023.

Dear customers,

Garment manufacturing at La Plainelière has a long history, almost a tradition. For almost a hundred years, our industrial site has been beating to the rhythm of looms and sewing machines. Since the founders, Husseau and Moynaton, human and entrepreneurial adventures have followed one another with the same ambition: to do well in France. The period 1925 / 1988 saw the Kidur brand prosper and employ up to 600 people, after which Kidur faded into the background, to the benefit of prestigious brands which have since contributed to maintaining and developing our know-how. Today, La Confection des Deux Sèvres is a high-end couture workshop, designing and producing made-to-measure and ready-to-wear items for leading luxury brands.

In 2018, we have completely rethought the Kidur brand, from its historical cradle, logo, cuts, materials, we have reconsidered everything to offer you the best of French manufacturing, on our website www.kidur.fr or directly at the factory with a tour of the workshops. The objective was clear: to enable each of you to buy products made in our workshops directly and with the utmost transparency.

Kidur is a story of experience and learning. Manufacturing and distributing are two totally different professions, and to better understand your expectations, we went out to meet you on tours, to present our products at short sales and trade shows. During these tours, we've met some very interesting people, and the exchanges have enabled us to improve our knowledge of direct sales. We discovered the beautiful location of 16 rue des Bahutiers in Bordeaux, and quickly felt the urge to open a boutique there, which will become a reality in November 2022.

Kidur was soon on offer in a number of partner stores in France, and we'd like to thank them for their confidence. We'd like to thank you for the warm welcome you gave our products.

To keep up with this demand, we had several options: increase our manufacturing capacity by training more craftsmen and seamstresses, simplify our products to automate production, subcontract our products to other workshops...

Kidur can only be produced at Kidur, as we've said from the outset, and we're convinced that the production of our garments must be entrusted to the know-how and hands of our craftsmen and seamstresses. Automation and subcontracting are a thing of the past, and all that remains is the training of new talent in our workshop. Every year, a Kidur school enables us to train people in the basics of our trades in-house, and then develop their skills in our workshops. The whole training process takes almost three years.

However, managing these outlets means constant efforts to renew our collections and diversify our products, which is a far cry from our primary vocation as a manufacturer. At Kidur, we are deeply attached to our know-how and artisan heritage, values we refuse to compromise.

We quickly realized that we couldn't take on this new manufacturing workload at the same time as meeting the needs of our long-standing luxury customers. It proved impossible for our workshop to adapt to the needs of physical sales without betraying the values of quality and authenticity of its brand, Kidur. In order not to jeopardize a business model that has seen us through all periods, and after careful consideration, we decided to refocus on what we do best: making quality garments, designed and produced in our century-old workshop in La Plainelière de Courlay. As a result, we have decided to cease all distribution of our products to our partner retailers and our boutique in Bordeaux.

Does this mean the end of Kidur? Quite the contrary! Our team is currently working on our future spring-summer 2025 collection. The SURFER ROSA collection will be presented at the factory next week and will be available at the beginning of 2025, but we'll have the opportunity to tell you more about it before then. And in 2025, we'll be back to meet you at selected events.

In the meantime, this summer we'll be offering you a few new products in June, as well as a restocking of our permanent references.

From now on, you can order our products directly from our website kidur.fr or visit us at our factory at 51 rue du Bocage, Courlay, Deux-Sèvres. Thank you again for your understanding and unfailing support.

Distinguished consideration.

Your devoted Kidur.
